"Meek M. Hamilton, 76, went home to be with Jesus, Thursday, February 25, 2010, in the Beckley Veterans Memorial Hospital, Beckley."Born May 14, 1933, in Bland, Va., he was the son of the late Hubert and Argie Hamilton of Pineville, W.Va.
"He was the Pastor of the Jesus Way Church for the last 33 years. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from United Christian Church Association in Cleveland, Tenn. He also evangelized and had tent services for about 20 years. He and wife, Lina, and Assistant Pastor James and wife Alice Owens traveled throughout W.Va. and Va. offering ministry services to the community. He didn't get paid with money but the rewards of this labor were immeasurable to the communities and individuals.
"He was retired from Cabot Gas Company and an Army Veteran.
"Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Hamilton of Pineville and Vance Hamilton of Beckley.
"Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Lina Hamilton of Maben; two children, a son, James Hamilton and wife Debbie of Maben, and a daughter, Cathy Jones and husband Steve of Lewisburg; four brothers, Rodney Hamilton and wife Drema of Beckley, Vinton Hamilton and wife Donna, Clinton Hamilton and wife Linda, both of Pineville, and Ronnie Hamilton and wife Barbara of Florida; six sisters, Linda Halsey and husband Steve, Darlene Tilley and husband Bobby, both of Virginia, Darisue Gillmore of Kentucky, Maxine White of Ohio, Delores Prichard of South Carolina, and Debbie Jones and husband Billy of Lewisburg. His grandchildren: Stephen Jones of Lewisburg, Grant Jones of North Carolina, Jennifer Patton of Lewisburg and stepgrandchild, Amber White of Corinne, W.Va. Great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Zachary, Nathaniel Patton, Jordan and Emily Jones.
"He will be sadly missed by all of his Church, family and friends.
"Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Rev. Steve Acord, Rev. Garland Cook Jr., Rev. Steve Jones, Rev. Steve Board and Assistant Pastor James Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. VFW Post 3110 will perform military honors. Friends may gather with the family two hours prior to the service Monday, March 1, 2010, at the funeral home.
