Church Family moved to Hayward,CA,where he
attended and graduated from Tennyson High
School,Class of 1965,and attended Chabot
College in Hayward,CA,for awhile.
Levan enlisted in the Marines 8 September
1966 in Oakland,CA.After completing boot his
camp and infantry training,he was sent home
on leave.
Levan and Katheen were married 18 December
1966,before he went back to Camp Pendleton
for additional training.
Arriving in Vietnam February 1967,Levan was
assigned to the Weapons Platoon,Echo
Company,2nd Battalion,3rd Marine Regiment,
3rd Marine Division.
Echo Company was participating in Operation
Kangaroo Kick,when Levan died of a gunshot
wound to the right posterior neck from sniper
rifle fire in the vicinity of Thon Cu Hoan,4
kilometers northeast of Hai Lang.
Levan was married and served his country for
10 months and 24 days.KIA#15,089.He had
been in Vietnam for 5 months.
Levan was 19 years,6 months and 15 days old.

"David Forrest Powell age 55 of Princeton, WV; formerly of Kyle, WV who departed this life on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Roanoke, VA."David was born October 18, 1965 in Welch, WV to Phyllis Powell of Gary, WV. He graduated from Northfork High School and joined the US Army and later the US Navy. After completing his duties to his Country, David received an honorable discharge and returned home to begin enjoying his retirement.
"David loved the Lord and was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost at Midway Shiloh Temple in Keystone, WV, under the leadership of the late Bishop B. T. Jones. After years of worshipping at other churches, he rejoined Midway Shiloh Temple in 2019 at the Church’s Homecoming under the leadership of Pastor John Hale. David enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed cooking and his specialty was fried cauliflower and broccoli casserole. Also, he enjoyed bowling, bingo and singing. David’s favorite song was “God Is My Everything.” He was a member of the New Direction Choir.
"Over time, his health began to interfere with his activities, but he remained active for as long as he was able. He loved his family, as he had 17 nieces and nephews; many cousins, aunts and uncles. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his mother and grandmother, who were his number one girls. He would often say, “I am the First and the Oldest Grandchild.”
"He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Joseph Powell Sr., Ralph Washington Sr., and four uncles: Joseph Powell Jr., Jesse Younger, Henry Thompson, and Ernest Harris Jr., and his cousin, Dwight “Bird” Miller.
