"CWO Junior Wayne Barr, World War II Veteran, Korean War Veteran, Vietnam Veteran and resident of Ashe County NC"Chief Warrant Officer Junior Wayne Barr, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Reserve, CWO Barr served our country until May 22nd, 1968 in Kontum, South Vietnam. He was 40 years old and was married. Junior died from a heart attack. His body was recovered. Junior was born on December 8th, 1927 in Crumpler, West Virginia. CWO Barr is on panel 65E, line 004 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 16 years.
"He is the Son of Mr Willie Coy and Mrs Dottie Howell Barr of West Jefferson, Ashe County, North Carolina. Husband of Mrs Irene P. Barr, Piney Creek, NC; Brother to Rachel, Raymond and Nora Barr. Junior moved to Ashe Co. in 1940. He had enlisted in the Army in NC at age 18. He did a tour in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1947. In the fall of '47 he attended Virginia-Caroline High School and graduated with the 47-48 Class. On Dec. 23,1947 he married Irene Parsons. His first daughter, Charlsie was born in '48 and Nancy June was born in '54. He Re-enlisted in 1954, did another tour in Japan 57-58. He was sent to Vietnam in May of '67 and passed away from a heart attack in May 1968.-Irene
