"BERWIND — Esther Sebastin, 90, of Berwind, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Va."Born Dec. 8, 1915 at Perth Amboy, N.J., she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Poch Gall. She was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in War and was retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years of employment as a Postal Clerk.
"In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Sebastin; two brothers, Steve Gall and Alec Gall.
"Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Conrad and husband David of Columbus, Ohio; special niece, Debbie Davidson and husband Marvin of Tazewell, Va.; one brother, John Gall of Warriormine; one sister, Helen Hamro of Oakwood, Va.; two grandchildren, Matthew Conrad and wife Tracey of Athens, Ohio, and Cristine Shaheen and husband Michael of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; three great grandchildren, Ben and Abbey Conrad and Sam Shaheen; special great niece, Sarah Davidson of Princeton; special great nephew, Stephen Davidson of Danville, Va.

"Mary June Norman Thompson, 90, of Salem, Va., having finished her work here on Earth, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 26, 2009. Mary June was born on August 19, 1919, in Salem, VA where she lived for 90 years. She attended Salem High School on Broad St. and graduated from The Chicago School of Nursing. She later attended Virginia Western Community College. Mary June served as a Practical Nurse for 19 years for Dr. Russell B. Smiley and Dr. Donald R. Williams. She served as Secretary/Treasurer for Electrical Industrial Maintenance Corp. from 1969 until retirement in 1986. Mary June Thompson will be remembered for her service to her church and community. She served as a Deacon of Salem Baptist Church where she also taught Junior Sunday School departments for 10 years and was past-president of Salem Baptist Church Women's Missionary Unit. She was in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and organized the Be Active and Live Longer (BALL) senior adult group. Mary June also served as past-president of Roanoke Valley Baptist Senior Adults Association. Mary June was a life member of the Rebekah Lodge #98 and was elected Grand Noble in 1997. She served as past-president of American Business Women's Association and was awarded Business Woman of the Year. She was past-treasurer of Virginia Association of American Medical Assistants and volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader, member of the Salem LOA group, Widowed Person's Services & Training Group and Salem Woman's Club. She was selected as Older Worker of the Year in 1996. Mary June will also be remembered as an avid ballroom dancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dalton Ealton Thompson Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Marsena T. Hartless; and son, Dalton Ealton (Ed) Thompson Jr. and his wife, Vada O. Thompson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather H. Ritter, April T. Pratt, Meredith H. Wilson, Mitzi T. Martin, and Lana L. Thompson; and ten greatgrandchildren, Will and Jordan Pratt, Kaitlyn and Madison Martin, Indigo and Talon Ritter, and Faren, Sawyer, Zach and Seth Wilson. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Services will be officiated by the Reverend William D. Wingfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary June's name to the American Cancer Society at 2840 Electric Road Suite 160A in Roanoke, Va. 24018. The Thompson family is being served by John M.
