"Verner “Dale” Lester, 69, of Huff Creek, WV passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center surrounded by his wife Christine, and children Toby and Levi following a brief illness. Dale was born December 26, 1950. He was the son of Woodrow “Woody” and Lois Lester."In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Clinton “Jr.” Lester, Donald Lee Lester, and sister Zandra Lester Holleron.
"He was survived by his wife of 47 years, Christine England Lester; sons Toby (Amy) Lester of Garden City, South Carolina, and Levi Lester of Huff Creek, West Virginia; grandson Ethan Lester; a brother, Tony Lester; and a sister, Claudine McCrady.
"Dale loved hunting, fishing, and joking with friends. He was generous beyond words. It was common for Dale to give his knife to a kid or his hunting rifle to someone who needed one. He loved taking kids hunting and fishing. Many children owe their first hunting and fishing trip to Dale. Dale was beloved by his family and friends. He never met someone he didn’t talk too, and you could always tell where Dale was in the crowd as people would be laughing. For instance, the nurses at the hospital moved his chair out to their station because they loved talking to him. As long as we live, Dale too will live, for he is a part of us. While Dale will be greatly missed by his family and friends, his generosity and spirit will live on through the lives he touched.
"Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 2 o’clock with Preacher Jeff Dorton and Reverend Gary Walker officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger.Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until time of services at 2 o’clock. "Everett was a proud veteran of the US Army and a Vietnam Veteran, where he earned a Purple Heart.
"Everett lived in Kopperston for over twenty-four years. He enjoyed coaching t-ball and volunteered to help maintain the ball fields. He was always very involved with the community and children. He was known to his neighbors as a person with a humble heart.
"He spent fifteen years working for Eastern Coal and was a member of the mine rescue team. After leaving Eastern, he and his wife moved to live on Lake Murray in Chapin, SC. where he loved to go fishing, water ski and ride jet skis.
"He enjoyed taking care of his home and took great pride in the work he did. His favorite pastime was working along side his grandson on his 1976 Corvette Stingray, which they lovingly referred to as their baby.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie and Dorothy and two brothers, Robert and Frank.
"Everett is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Drema Edwards Watts, his son, Everett E. “Gene” Watts II and grandson, Benjamin Aldan Watts, both of whom were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Hurman and a host of nieces and nephews."
