"COALWOOD — Frederick G. "Grandad" Beavers, age 83, of Coalwood, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton. Born April 16, 1928 in Caretta, he was the son of the late James and Hazel Hunt Beavers."He retired from Olga Coal Company after 40 years. He was a member of the Berwind Masonic Lodge #141. He enjoyed working in his work shop and giving unofficial "Rocket Boys" tours of Coalwood to tourist.
"In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
"He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia E. (Jenny) Smith Beavers; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Vickie) Gilman of Coalwood, Ms. Terri Sokolow of Bristol, Va. and Ms. Toni Robbins of Coalwood; six grandchildren, Tara Helton and Ashley Gilman, both of Huntington, W.Va., Tasha Foy of Bristol, Va., Joshua Sokolow of Madrid, Spain and Jeremy and Jacob Robbins, both of Huntington, W.Va.; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Helton, Oliver and Lucy-Claire Foy and Levi and Dylan Followay and Sophie Robbins; one sister, Margie B. Jones of Chesterfield, Va.
"The family will receive friends on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Coalwood United Methodist Church in Coalwood from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Joe Moore officiating, and there will be no interment.

"Virginia Elizabeth “Jenny” Smith Beavers, 87 of Coalwood passed away on March 19, 2020 at Princeton Community Hospital after a short illness. Born December 18, 1932 she was the daughter of the late AW Smith and Janie Armstrong Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Coalwood, worked 16 years for McDowell County Schools and attended Coalwood United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Fred C Beavers, 2 brothers JC Smith and Bernard Smith and 1 sister Evelyn Smith Mullins. Survivors include 3 daughters Vicki (Roger) Gilman of Coalwood, Tern Sokolow of Bristol VA and Toni Robbins of Coalwood. She was also the best “Nana” ever to 6 grandchildren-Tara Helton of Orlando, FL, Ashley Layne of Huntington WV, Tasha Foy of Bristol, VA, Josh Sokolow of Florida, Jeremy Robbins of Lavalette WV and Jacob Robbins of Barboursville WV and 11 great-grandchildren-Ryar and Haley Helton, Alex and Berkleigh Layne, Oliver and Lucy-Claire Foy, Valencia Sokolow, Levi and Dylan Followay, and Sophie and Caron Robbins. She will be cremated and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Coalwood United Methodist Church at 41 Von Braun Court, Welch WV 24801 or a charity of your choice.
