"TAZEWELL MURDER CHARGE FILED Tuesday Morning, July 17, 1951
Tazewell, Va. July 16—(Special)—Sam Hammed, owner of the Four-Way Café near Tazewell , today was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Curtis B. Freeman in Hammed's tavern early Sunday morning."Commonwealth Attorney William E. Royall filed the charges with Trial Justice Albert G. Perry before whom Hammed was given a preliminary hearing.
"Freeman, 29, a resident of Skygusty, W.V. in McDowell County, died in Bluefield Sanitarium early Sunday morning about three hours after he was shot following an argument that ensued when Hammed ordered Freeman to leave the establishment.
"Freeman's body will be taken to the home at Skygusty Tuesday morning from a Welch funeral home.
Funeral service will be held in Harman Chapel Church of Christ Wednesday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Burton Harman and the Rev. Henry Thomas."Burial will follow in the Harman Cemetery near Skygusty.
