"MORGANTOWN -- Dwight David Smith, 51, of Morgantown, W.Va., formerly of Fanrock, W.Va., went to be with Jesus on Thursday afternoon, April 3, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born Feb. 8, 1957. He was a son of the late Arthur and Blanche Lusk Smith of Fanrock."He was a coal miner for 27 years and attended Zoar House of Prayer in Morgantown where he ministered. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was an avid Mountaineer football fan and sports card collector. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and helping people in need. He will be sadly missed and his memories will always be cherished.
"Those left to mourn his passing include his wife of five years, Laura Hensdill Smith of Morgantown; a daughter, Alisha Mongeni and husband Earl of Mullens; a son, Dwight Smith and wife Jennifer of Pineville; two grandchildren, Kalyssa Smith and Tyler Piercy, also, an additional granddaughter is expected to arrive in July; three sisters, Thelma Cook of Fanrock, Margaret Stafford and husband Charles of Oceana, and Ollie Bognar and husband John of Ocala, Fla.; nine brothers, Howard Smith of Lakeland, Fla., B.C. Smith and wife Sandy of Warner Robins, Ga., Arthur "Art" Smith and wife Sandy of Hammonton, N.J., Roger Smith and wife Debbie of Pineville, Gene Smith of Fanrock, George Smith and wife Wendy of Lynco, James Smith and wife Debbie also of Lynco, Thomas Smith and wife Sandy of Trinity, N.C., and Mervin Smith and wife Robin of Charleston, W.Va.; and a host of church friends.
"Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 12 o'clock, with Evangelist Joe Martin officiating at the Brier Creek Tabernacle in Fanrock. Burial will follow in the Lusk-Smith Family Cemetery at Fanrock.
