"Betty L. (Auville) Mullins, 82, of Rockford passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, after a hard fight against cancer.

"Born October 9, 1936, in Coon Branch, WV, the daughter of David Samuel and Martha Elizabeth (Johnson) Auville. Betty began a career as a teacher and taught for one year before she married Herbert Mullins. After Herbert’s passing, she married Robert Faist in 2003. Later in life, Betty worked in various roles of childcare, daycare and most recently daycare director. She enjoyed being a part of school plays during her high school years. Betty enjoyed raising a family, was a great mother and loved her children. Betty had a strong determination and constitution to fight and continue her independence. She loved her coffee group; they were upset when Perkins Restaurant closed. Betty continued joining her coffee group up until about a month before her passing. She was an avid reader. Betty saw a photo of her great-granddaughter who was born the same day she passed away. She was a very hospitable person, always welcoming visitors with food, open arms and a place to stay. Betty was known for playing tricks on her brothers. She enjoyed water aerobics and her friends. Member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Gideons which she was very involved with the group.

"Survivors include her children, Roy (Darlene) Mullins, David (Cherrie Cleveland) Mullins, Steven Mullins, Linda (Tom) Olson and Charles (Kim) Mullins; grandchildren, David (Tiffany), Brittany (Ryan), Brooke (Cory), Crystal, Amy, Killian and Logan; great-grandchildren, Sean, Bode, Brooklyn, Nya and Callie; siblings, Jack Auville, Larry (Mary) Auville, Nancy Belew and Sheila (Billy) Johnson; special friends, Laurie and Anna. Predeceased by husbands Herbert and Robert; brothers, Robert, Doug and Richard; and sister-in-law, Sylvia.

Sue made Asco and Davy, West Virginia her home for most of her life, but the last 16 years she called Tennessee home. She was a homemaker, a caretaker to many, and was always involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She taught Sunday school for many years at her home church in Asco. Sue loved to sing and play games; she would spend hours listening to her e-bible, gospel music and preaching. She was a lifelong member of Asco Community Church and most recently attended Limestone Freewill Baptist Church. Her goal in life was to see her family and friends make it to heaven.

"Sue is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Velma Jackson Sarks; her loving husband of 47 years, Lloyd Barnett, and four brothers, Arvide, Richard, John and Stuart Ray Sarks.

"Herbert Joe Elkins, 94, of Oceana left his earthly home to be with his heavenly father Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.

"Born June 23, 1926, in Man, WV, he was the son of the late Ida Miller Elkins and Walter G. Elkins.

"Herbert served in the U.S. Navy as a coxswain V-6, he was awarded several medals: China Services, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, World War II Victory and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.

"He was active in sports and was a member of a gospel quartet, called The Golden Keys. He was also the first Boy Scout Master of Oceana. He was employed at Harris Mines as a dispatcher for many years.

"He was a charter member, Deacon and Choir Director of Faith Baptist Church of Matheny. He remained active in the church until his death.

"Herbert was a much beloved son, husband, father, uncle and brother. He will be missed by family, friends and the community where he lived most of his life.

"He was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet G. Reed and his second wife of fifty-one years, Janice Meredith Elkins; four brothers, Ed, Arlie, Walter Jr. and Calvin; and two sisters, Gladys and Ruth.
