"James Harvey Collins, 81, of Princeton died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2017 at Ridge Care Assisted Living in Princeton. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. Mr. Collins was a retired coal miner, working in the coal industry his entire life and a member of the U.M.W.A. While his health permitted, he loved the water and the beach, going to the Smokie’s and spending time with his family. He moved from McDowell County to Princeton in 1995."Born April 27, 1935 at Rock Ridge, he was the son of the late Lawrence "French" Collins (1906-1970) and Rose Mae Beavers-Collins (1911-2001). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Harvey Collins Jr. (1958-2011); along with four siblings, Charles "Franklin" Collins (1933–1951), Pearl Collins-Coleman (Deceased), Brenda Collins (Deceased) and Lucille Collins (Deceased).
"Those left to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Phyllis Ann Rowe-Collins (1940-2018); two sons, Franklin Collins and Larry Dean Collins; six grandchildren, Stacie Powell, Tameka Collins, Justin Collins, Jessica Collins, Austin Collins & Nikki Collins; three great grandchildren, Madison Powell, Nolan Praytor & Mia Hutto; three siblings, Robert Collins, Dewey Collins & wife Trula Collins, Teddy Collins & wife Judy Collins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Chaplin Danny Gunnoe officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park at Bluewell. Military honor will be given by the WV Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home."
