"Johnson Ist Andover Grad War Casualty
"A Marine from Brooklyn Park was killed Feb. 7 in Vietnam while engaged in a battle with the Viet Cong, He was the first Andover graduate to be killed in Vietnam.
"Pfc. David Rudolph Johnson, 20, a rifeman with the 3rd Marine Division, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin S, Johnson of 3 Ballman ct, Former residents of 17 Mountain rd. North Linthicum, they moved to Brooklyn Park slightly over a year ago.
"The slain Marine was graduated from Andover High School in 1967. He was in the distributive education program there, and had worked by a builder in the work study program at Andover. His father works for the same builder, Rudy York.
"At Andover the Marine was captain of the safety patrol and also assisted in runnng the school store.
"He had always wanted to go into the Marines, and joined on the 120 day plan, signing up for the corps 120 days before graduation. He went to Paris Island, S.C. recriut depot last June.
"He was home on leave from Okinawa for Thanksgiving and had been in Vietnam for about six weeks. The survivors were notified on Monday and received an offical telegram Tuesday.
"Pfc. Johnson is also survived by his widow, Mrs, Donna J. Johnson, whom he married May 16, a sister and three brothers, and his grandparents in West Virginia.
"His remains are expected to arrive in this country within a week to 10 days"
