"Eugene Augustine Muncy 67, of Premier, West Virginia went to be with The Lord on September 26, 2022, where he was greeted by his mother, father and brothers."Gene, as he was lovingly called, was a decorated Officer of the Law for over forty-two years serving War, West Virginia and Welch, West Virginia. Gene also progressed in his profession to serve as Chief of Police in Welch for numerous years.
"Eugene “Gene” Muncy was the son of Sam and Hazel Jane Miller Muncy. His brothers include Sam Earl Muncy, Ray H. Muncy and Danny Mitchell Muncy, Sr. who entered the Heavenly Gates ahead of him; also, his nephews: John H. Muncy and his namesake Doug Eugene Muncy.
"Gene loved riding motorcycles and ATV’s and enjoyed a good steak. Gene also loved his job and dedicated over half of his life in service to his community. Gene greatly enjoyed helping and mentoring many officers throughout his career.
"Gene is survived by his niece, Samatha and Mark Collins of Squire, West Virginia; nephew, Danny and Kiri Muncy of Princeton, West Virginia; Travis and Samantha Muncy of Berwind, West Virginia and Benjamin Cole Muncy of Coalwood, West Virginia; his brother Sam Muncy’s Widow, Rebecca Muncy; companion, Beth Morris and his special grandbabies: Kaylie, Kaleb, Konnor, Maddux and Asher as well as their mother, Paige; Gene’s lifelong friends: Kenneth Chittum, Patricia Kinder Beavers, Billy Charles, Herchel Muncy; two men he thought of as sons: Bobby Burchette as well as Deputy Dalton Martin; a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly called Gene “Wop” and lifelong friends who will cherish his memory.
"Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Darrell Long and Pastor Scott Long at Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch. Visitation will be the prior evening of Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Burial will follow at Hartwell Cemetery.
