"Another War time post.

"John D. Payne vs Daniel H. Harman, Mathias Harman, Elias V. Harman, Alexander D. Beavers, James Beavers, David Sayer, John Yost, Andrew Steel, & Rubin Steel. In this the county of McDowell calls witnesses for both sides the plaintiff and defendant. Harman called A.J. May as one of his, being summoned. My guess is and I don't have any testimony, is that this group of Defendants were under orders to confiscate in the name of Confederacy. What I do not know and it was written that way is the name of Cronce. I wonder if it should have been Richard Vance. We won't know unless I can find something to prove that. I have not looked in the county records for a Cronce yet. Case started in December of 1865, and by looks of the summons lasted until 1867.
