"Elijah was educated in McDowell County, and from a young age loved and played all kinds of instruments, he also loved cooking, and playing cards. Elijah worked at Welch Emergency Hospital, Davison Super Market, and he was also a preacher.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Ada Reed, one brother Amos Ray. Five Aunts: Betty Stone, Ruth Jennings, Willa Mae Holland, Doris Kidd, and Juanita Pannell. Two Uncles: Ted Jones and Howard Jones.
"Those left to cherish his memory include: his children Maria Reed Smith, Keisha Reed Smith, and Consuela Reed. Two sisters: Emma Taylor, and Gladys Evans, and a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

"I remember Kermit Cook coming to our home to talk with my Dad, Billie Workman when I was a kid.. Seems like he was a Basketball coach at one time and either played with my Dad or coached him probably in the early 1930's.. I remember going to Morgantown once with my parents and we went to
visit him there.."

"Johnny Mack Lester, 65, of Grundy, VA, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 in Bristol Regional Medical Center."Johnny was born August 21, 1954, in Paynesville, WV, a son of the late Earl Lester and Beulah McClanahan Lester. He was a heavy equipment operator and was a loving father and grandfather. He was a professional musician and had a strong sense of Humor; he played in various bands, including Caiged Angel.
"In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by a daughter, Miranda Lester; and several brothers and sisters: Ronnie Lester, Donita Brewer, Phyllis Frost, Jennifer Lester, Freddie Lester, and Henry Lester.
