"Guy Lester, 77, of Oceana died on Sunday, December 14, 1997 in a Logan hospital following a long illness. Mr. Lester was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, was a retired miner from Ranger Fuel Company with 35 years of service, and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a member of the Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church, where he was an ordained deacon and an active member on the Relief Committee for the Needy.

"He was born on September 3, 1922 in Phelps, KY to the late Emery Lester (Deceased) and Crosby Blankenship-Lester (Deceased). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra K. Lester (1952-1972), and Brenda K. Lester (Deceased); two brothers, Scott Lester (Deceased) and Don Lester (Deceased); and a sister, Eva Lester-Hager (Deceased).

"Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorine B. Fisher-Lester (1930-2012) whom he married in 1944; three sons, J.C. Lester & wife Marlena Lester of Oceana, Larry Lester & wife Patty Lester of Dunella, FL, and Bernard Lester & wife Patricia Lester of Oceana; two daughters, Patsy Sue Lester-Miller & husband, Gary “Bo,” Miller of Kopperston, and Shirley Ann Lester-Ellis (1954-2020) of Oceana; nine grandchildren, Michael Lester of Charleston, Brian Lester and Kevin Lester of Dunella, Amanda Lester, A.J. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today at the church and one hour before the services Wednesday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.

"Lorine B. Lester, 82, of Oceana went home to be with her Savior Sunday, April 15, 2012. Lorine was a devoted and active member of Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church for over 38 years, where she coordinated the Christmas treats and headed the food planning committee. She loved cooking and making memories with her family.

"She was born on January 10, 1930 in KY to the late Sam Fisher (Deceased) and Louisiana Fisher (Deceased). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Guy Lester (1922-1997); two daughters, Brenda K. Lester (Deceased) and Sandra K. Lester (1952-1972) and five sisters, Georgia Fisher (Deceased), Josephine Fisher-Wolford (Deceased), Reatha Fisher-Wolford (Deceased), Margie Fisher-Hall (Deceased), and Ruth Fisher-Spence (Deceased). Lorine was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

"Upon graduating she attended business school in Bluefield, WV and worked for several years for the Consolidated Bus Lines in Bluefield and then moved on to the central office at the Mercer County Board of Education. While working at the BOE she attended classes at Concord College during nights and summers achieving her Bachelor of Science in Education. Subsequently, she started working as an elementary school teacher at Newhall Elementary in McDowell County. After teaching for several years and attending summer school at West Virginia University she achieved her Master of Arts degree thus becoming principal of Newhall, retiring in 1989 with 27 years of service. Juanita was a 50 year plus member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary serving as president for many years, was a member of The War United Methodist Church where she served as secretary, a member of the McDowell County Retired Teachers Association where she served as treasurer, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International-Phi Chapter and was a loving sister, aunt, neighbor and friend to many. In addition to her parents, Edie was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Nathan C. and Mary Florence, Vernon C. and Pauline, John A. and JoAnne, sisters and brothers-in-law Mandeline and Steve Wolkovich and Frances “Frankie” and Robert L. Turner and an infant brother, Walter Jr. Also preceding her in death were nieces Amy McCarver, April Nieuwenhuis and nephew David Hale. She is survived by nieces Deborah Yost and Karen Hawthorn, nephews Thomas Hale (who has helped so much) and John Robert Turner, who was her live-in caregiver the last 11 months and her special feline fur-baby, Trampus. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Kindred Home Health Staff and Juanita’s dear family friends Elishia and Hershel Pierce, Natasha Prater of McDowell County Commission On Aging, Cody and Missy Williams, and neighbors Peggy Brewster and Betty Tucker. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 12:00 PM - Noon with visitation from 11:30 am until time of services at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, Virginia with Pastor Chris Vanover officiating; burial will follow in the cemetery. Friends may call during the 30 minutes prior with social distancing, masks and Covid-19 protocols in place. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, McDowell County Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
