"RODERFIELD — Nannie Bell (Green) Tilley, 90, died October 10, 2011, with her family by her side at her residence near Roderfield, W.Va. Nannie was born April 24, 1921 in North Welch. The wife of a coal miner, she was married to Elden Emory Tilley in 1936 and continued to live in the Roderfield area until 1973. After her husband's retirement, they moved to Fairfax, Va. to care for her ailing sister-in-law. In 2006 Nannie decided to move back to West Virginia to be near her family. She knew what she wanted and what she believed in. She purposefully lived her own life, and made a huge impact on many of her family members' lives through her consistency. An excellent seamstress, Nannie loved growing flowers, feeding hummingbirds and baking pies. She had a generous spirit and good sense of humor. Scrabble, Uno, Phase 10 and Tri-ominos were some of her favorite games. Reading books was one of her favorite pastimes. But most importantly, she faithfully served God from her youth and was the child who influenced her father to change his life long before many of her other siblings were born. The oldest of nine children, Nannie was preceded in death by her husband, Elden; her parents, Jesse and Gladys Green; two sisters, infant Georgia Green and Nellie Mae (Green) Muncy; and two brothers, Ralph Green and Hobert Green."She is survived by four brothers, Willard Green of Knoxville, Md., Steve Green and wife Doris, John Green and wife Wanda, and Elden Green and wife Ivirose all of Roderfield; over 30 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
"She is a member of the Church of God. For 33 years, she attended the Church of God in Manassas, Va. and upon her relocation to the Roderfield area she attended the Church of God at Harmon's Branch near Iaeger. Pastors John Green of Iaeger and John Wilcoxon of Manassas will be officiating her funeral service which will be held Friday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of God at Harmon's Branch. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Fanning Funeral Home of Iaeger. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Nannie will be laid to rest next to her husband and near her parents in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va...."

" Born May 27, 1960, McDowell county native Elden E. Green succumbed to a lengthy illness on January 8, 2015. Though his life was much shorter than his family and friends would have preferred, he lived it fully and with intelligence, warmth and care.
"A 1978 honors graduate of Iaeger High School and married to Ivirose Toler in 1981, Elden started his own engineering business, primarily for the coal industry, in 1984. As a Licensed Professional Surveyor in both Virginia and West Virginia, Elden's career carried him into many different business circles and through the lives of many WV and VA residents. He was the owner of Green Tree Consulting and the building where it is housed, the Miners and Merchant's building downtown Welch, WV; a board member of the McDowell County PSD and the McDowell County Tourism Committee.
"Elden loved to read and had a passion for knowledge. Intrigued with the sky and the land, he had an avid interest in astronomy and cartography. He was a chess master and ping pong champion in high school and continued both conquests throughout his adult years, still able to take down the teenagers who tried his hand.
"Anyone who talked with Elden knew he sincerely appreciated his heritage. He loved his home state and his family. And he loved visiting the Shenandoah Valley and the Great Smokey Mountains. He was an avid photographer, mostly of wildlife and nature. He loved to take pictures of animals and paint them when he could find the time to get the oils on the canvas "just right". His humorous comment was "Perfectionism is a heavy burden to bear." A talented artist since his high school days, his paintings hang in his home and the homes of his family members; and have been shown locally - most recently at the McDowell County Public Library.
"Hunting was also one of Elden's favorite leisure pursuits - and not just in the fall. He read about hunting year round. He played hunting games on the computer with his nephews any time they visited. During all months of the year, you could find him sitting on his back porch late at night, making any native animal noise!
"Of all Elden's earthly accomplishments, his love and faithfulness to God not only top the list, but provided him with the joy and contentment in his heart to share life with each of us as he did. A member of the Church of God at Harmons Branch, he was a tenor in the church choir and sang in duets, trios and quartets. His love for God was often expressed through music and in the way he happily lived his life, enjoyed his family and friends and opened his heart, his home and his wallet to any and all with benevolence.
"Elden was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse & Gladys Green and 6 siblings: Nannie Tilley, infant Georgia Green, Ralph Green, Nellie Muncy, Hobart Green and Steve Green. He is survived by his wife, Ivirose Green, of Roderfield, WV; brother, Willard Green of Knoxville, MD; brother John (wife, Wanda) Green of Roderfield, WV; many close in-laws in Waynesboro, VA, and a host of nieces and nephews who he loved as children.
"The Fanning Funeral Home of Iaeger will serve the Green family. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening at Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger from 6pm-9pm.
