"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only - but unto all them also that love his appearing.
"On a cool, wet Sunday afternoon, a precious soul slipped away into the presence of God, Ezra Ray Hatfield, 80, of Jolo, WV.
"Ezra Ray was born February 18, 1932 in Bartley, WV, a son of the late Willard and Pearlie Sweeny Hatfield. His family later settled in Three Forks/Jolo community. He married Claudine Wimmer and they were blessed with daughters. Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, owned and drove coal trucks, was a member of the Community Church of the Living God at Three Forks, was a member of the American Legion at Bradshaw, and was a member of the UMWA at Caretta.
"In addition to his parents, Willard H. and Pearlie Mae Sweeny Hatfiled, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Rife, several brothers and sisters, and other loved ones.
"Loved ones carrying on his memory are his wife of fifty five years, Claudine; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rayettta and Michael Church of Claypool Hill, VA, Gail and Bill Martin of Jolo, WV, Linda Vance and Patrick “Shotgun” Shelton of Bristol, VA, Janie and Jimmy Sparks of Bristol, VA; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Chris and Abbi Church and Harrison of Roanoke, VA, Adam Church of Roanoke, VA, Jackie Church and Chrissy Gardner and Brianna Gardner of Iaeger, WV, Sara and Chris Sullivan and Kaigan of Bristol, VA, and Jamie D. "Claudine Gladis Wimmer Hatfield of Bristol, VA, formerly of Jolo, WV, passed away early Tuesday, October 14, 2014, in Bristol, VA. Claudine was born July 23, 1933, in Jewell Ridge, VA, a daughter of the late James Dewey and Sarah Jane Breeding Wimmer. She was of the Holiness Faith, loved her family, her church, and loved to sing. She was a fan of WVU, Nascar, and Elvis Presley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Ray Hatfield, four sisters, two brothers, and a step daughter. Survivors include four daughters, Rayetta Church and husband Michael of Pounding Mill, VA, Gail Martin and husband Bill, Linda Vance, and Janie Sparks and husband James all of Bristol, VA; two brothers, Carl Wimmer and wife Ethelene of Compton Mountain, VA, and Luther Wimmer of Pea Patch, VA; five grandchildren, Jackie Church and Companion Chrissy Gardner of Iaeger, WV, Chris and Abbi Church of Roanoke, VA, Adam Church and companion Lindsay Davis of Stephens City, VA, Jamie D.
