"Leon was born May 1, 1923 in Robinson Creek, Ky., a son of the late Daniel and Evelyn Damron. He was a retired mining machine technician for Jeffery Manufacturing, and a United States Army Veteran. He enjoyed bluegrass music, fishing, and raising a garden.
"In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters, Gladys Fleming, Opal Tucker, Ruby Damron, Dorothy Graham, and Marie Paytner; and one brother, Homer Damron.
"Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Dorothy Lee Damron of the home; one daughter, Gail Edmonds and husband Manford of Glenwood, W.Va.; two sons, Doug Damron and wife Debbie of Iaeger, and Jimmy Damron and wife Rebecca of Thomasville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tony Edmonds and wife Lacy of Barboursville, Tanya Edmonds of Philadelphia, Pa., Kyle Damron of Thomasville, N.C.; one brother, Frank Damron of New Mexico; a special nephew, Micky Damron and wife Joan of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; and his special bluegrass buddies, Virgil Bailey of Ikes Fork, Burl Phillips of Iaeger, and Dave Kennedy of Athens.
"Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 21, 2011 at 12 o’clock with the Reverend Daniel Dean officiating at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger.
