"Years ago when I was a child, I remember seeing a photo sitting on my Granny's dresser of a man, a woman and a baby. Granny had told me the photo was of her brother Leonard Buford "Jack" Creasy and his wife Katie and their child. A few other members of Granny's family had the same photo. For years everyone thought it was Jack's wife Katie in the photo but when I started researching uncle Jack, I discovered that it wasn't Katie in the photo at all.

"Uncle Jack had gone down to Hemphill, WV to find work in the mines while leaving his wife Katie in Logan, WV. Some time during his stay in Hemphill, uncle Jack met a woman named Mabel VanHorne. I cannot find a divorce record for Jack and Katie so I assume they were still married when he met Mabel. Mabel gave birth to a baby girl on November 3, 1935 and named her Jackie (after uncle Jack) May (after uncle Jack's mother Effie May) Creasy. On September 11th, 1936, baby Jackie May starts to get really sick. She is taken to Grace Hospital on September 29th and passes away on September 30th at 8:20 pm. She is laid to rest on October 2nd, 1936 in the Iager Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield, WV.
