"Bookie Marie Blevins, 94, of Ritter Hollow near Avondale, WV, passed away of natural causes, at her home Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 6:20 a.m.
"Marie was born March 31, 1918, in Pike County, KY. She was married in 1934 and enjoyed 48 years with her husband. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; she enjoyed watching westerns and the news, and liked to tell stories about the “Good Old Days”.
"Those who preceded her in death include her father, Thomas Sansom, her mother, Nellie May Smith, her husband Leck Blevins, three sons, Robert, William Ivan, and Raymond Blevins, three grandsons, William Ivan Blevins, Jr., Robert Blevins, Jr., and Thomas Ray Blevins, a granddaughter, Susan Blevins, three great granddaughters, Stacy, Holly, and Sarah Seabolt, two sisters, Verilie Blankenship and Maxine Jones, three brothers, Arthur and Ed Christian and Ivan Sansom.
"Left behind are five sons, Arland Blevins and wife Gail, Leck Blevins, Jr. and wife Connie , Darrell Blevins and wife Linda, and Carl Blevins and wife Deedra all of Avondale, and Lonnie Blevins and wife Ella of Welch; one daughter, Phyllis Deskins and husband Jerry of Avondale; and one sister, Lodemia Ward of Ohio. Surviving grandchildren include nine grandsons, Allen Blevins, Randall Blevins and wife Selena, Kendall Blevins and wife Carla, Brian Blevins and wife Patty, Kevin Blevins and wife Melinda, Erland Blevins and wife Victoria, Leslie Blevins, Amillio Blevins and wife Kayla, and Anthony Deskins; ten granddaughters, Angela Robbins and husband Richard, Sandra Stinson and husband Russell, Melissa Addair and partner Bobby Roberts, Tonya Reed and husband Mack, Beverly Perry and husband Joey, Pamela Waldron and husband Billy, Shelly Blevins and partner Kenny, Andrea Deskins and partner Dustin, April Wentherford, and Santerra Blevins; also, thirty great grandchildren with one soon to be born, two great-great granddaughters, and one great-great grandson on the way. She is also survived by a very special nephew, Mike Sampson who spent lots of time with her and made her laugh. Marie lived a long life full of happiness, as well as sadness. Her legacy is her family and she will live on through each of them.
"Friends may visit with the family at the Avondale Independent Church of God at Ritter near Avondale, Friday evening, October 5, 2012, from 5 to10 p.m. where an evening service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
"Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 11 o clock, with Reverend Raymond Rowe and Reverend Granville Mullins officiating at the Avondale Independent Church of God at Ritter near Avondale. Burial will follow in the Blevins Cemetery in Ritter Hollow near Avondale. ..."
