"Earl Stone, age 90, of Gary, W.V., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Welch Community Hospital six days before his 91st birthday; after a short illness. Born July 26, 1922, in Elbert, He was the second Son of the late Baxter and Annie Hodge Stone. "Earl graduated from Gary High School and was one of the main organizers for the Class of 1940-1942 Reunions. He always enjoyed seeing his former classmates and friends. He Was a very proud Veteran of World War II; Serving from 1942-1945 in the U.S. Army. Earl was a devoted member of the Gary United Methodist most of the time he was known as "the only man in church". He and his High-School sweetheart Gertrude Christian were married in that church on August 21, 1945. He was a member of 40&8, American Legion post 38, and a charter member of the Gary Lions Club, and the Welch Kiwanis club. He was employed by U.S. Steel for forty four years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years Gertrude Christian Stone; one sister; Ruth, two brothers; Ralph and Paul; and a nephew, Keith Stone. "Survivors include two daughters; Pam Kinder and husband, Jack of 346 S. College Dr. Bluefield V.A.; and Kathy Umberger and husband, Ralph of Atlanta Ga.; two grandsons; Brad and wife, Hailey Umberger, and Les and wife Suzanne Umberger and a new great granddaughter Audry all of Atlanta G.A.; Three step granddaughters and their families, Angela and Curtis Strong, Michelle and Barry Strong, and Melissa Crabtree all of Texas. Eight step great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter Abby. One brother ,Orville and wife, Shirley and son Mark; sister in law, Martha Stone all of Hampton G.A.; His companion and caregiver, Emily Yeager and her family. "Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 11 A.M. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch W.V. with Pastor Virginia Green, officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton WV; where military graveside rights will be conducted by the Iaeger V.F.W. Post 1144...."

"...Paul Edward Stone of Hampton, Georgia passed away at his home following a short illness with lung cancer. Mr. Stone was born on March 26, 1928, in Elbert, West Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Baxter and Annie Mae Hodge Stone, a sister, Juanita Ruth Stone, and a brother, Ralph Stone. He served in the United States Army as a medic from 1952 until 1954 and was trained as a combat medic to be deployed to Korea. He was a commercial and residential construction contractor for many years and then worked and retired from Eckerd Drug Company in March, 1997. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Lovejoy and gave his service willingly in many areas of his church. Paul leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife of 46 years, Martha (Bolton), formerly of Tucker, GA; son, Paul Tankesley, Chaplain, CT; grandchildren, Jamie Fredrickson, Dallas, GA, and Joshua Tankesley, Douglasville, GA, three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Haley and James Fredrickson; brothers, Orville (Shirley) Stone, Hampton, GA; and Earl Stone, Gary W VA; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Mowell Funeral Home, 180 N. Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, Georgia. Service will be in the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Rev. Michael E. Hardin and Rev. Larry Graves will officiate.
