"Everett William “Bill” Sparks, 65, of Coalwood, WV, left for Heaven at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Hospice of Huntington in Huntington, WV."Born on December 20, 1947 in Caretta, WV, Bill dedicated his life to serving others. Bill served the United States Army as a Combat Medic in Vietnam and later at the Pentagon. He left the Army a Bronze Star recipient and, after working as a Deputy Sheriff in McDowell County, WV, went on to earn his teaching degree and work with students at Big Creek High School, the McDowell County Alternative School, and eventually the Adult Basic Education Center before retiring. From enjoying nature to truly appreciating life, Bill taught so many lessons, and his memory will continue to teach even more.

He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII and was the Post Commander of the VFW Post 1144 for many years. "Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11 o’clock, with Elder Fred Bailey officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in the Shortridge Cemetery on Garland Mountain near Garland, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
