"Hershel graduated from the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy in El Paso. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific as a P.T. boat skipper and was awarded the Navy Cross for performing a successful rescue mission of a downed Navy pilot. Following discharge, he was promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander. For over fifty years, he was employed by South Texas Equipment Co. and was highly regarded for his integrity and friendliness. Hershel was a member of the Associated General Contractors. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Sharon Norris and her husband Jim of Sebastian, FL; granddaughter, Maya Deis and her husband Jason of Tampa, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews..."
