"CYCLONE — Sharrell Hayes Brown departed this life Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the age of 59 years, 2 months and 21 days, and boarded the “Old Ship of Zion” at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness. "Born March 16, 1947, at Lorado, he was the son of the late Elsworth and Erma Athlene (Lusk) Brown. "Sharrell was a 1965 graduate of Oceana High School and was employed by Hammer Logging Co. for eight months and Eastern Associated Coal for 37 1/2 years. He was co-owner of Brown’s Construction and Brown’s Trailer Court at Cyclone. Sharrell became a member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in 2003. "In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dee and Addie Lusk; paternal grandparents, Hayes and Maggie Brown; and a brother, Dorn E. Brown. "Sharrell enjoyed doing woodworking and helping with the church BYF. He cherished the time spent with the loves of his life — his four grandchildren. During Sharrell’s extended hospital stay at Morgantown, his greatest desire was for his health to improve so he could attend church services he loved so much. He knew if this did not become reality, he would be a “winner either way.” "Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 19 years, Balinda “B.K.” Brown; two sons, Kenneth Brown and wife, Kim, of Cyclone and Kevin Brown of Cyclone; a daughter, Lisa Chambers and husband, Mark, of Martinsville, Va.; two stepchildren, Kim Huffman Brown and husband, Kenneth, of Cyclone and Mark Huffman and wife, Trina, of Critz, Va.; four grandchildren, Stephen Huffman, Kayla Brown, Hannah Huffman and Kadee Brown; three brothers, Harlen Brown and wife, Wanda, of Oceana, Edwin Brown and wife, Joann, of Cyclone and Earthel Brown and wife, Barbara, of Davin; a sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Oceana; a brother-in-law, Leroy Brown and wife, Ellen, of Kopperston; several nieces and nephews; and his extended church family and friends. "Elgene Cook, 76, of Coal Mountain, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. "Born, November 9, 1930, at Pineville, he was the son of the late Walter and Goldie Green Cook. Mr. Cook , a resident of Coal Mountain for 52 years, was a member of the Coal Mountain Freewill Baptist Chruch where he served as a superintendent and janitor. He attended church for 32 years. He worked 32 years in the coal mines, retiring from Island Creek Coal Company as a boss. He loved the outdoors, mainly coon hunting. "Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Irene Woolum Cook of Coal Mountain; two sons, Dennis Gene (Tina) Cook of Mooresville, NC and Calvin (Donna) Cook of Coal Mountain; three daughters, Patty (Jeffery) Donithan of Welch, Tammy Cook of Rock House, Hanover, and Misty (Landon) Grimmett of Hampden; grandchildren, Selena (James) Bledsoe, Kelli (Adam) Heager, Michelle Cook, Jason West, and Dalaney Grimmett. Additional survivors are great grandchildren, Tyler & Conner Bledsoe, and Abram Heager, a very special and close Uncle Paul Green of Pineville and a close friend Lewis Brown.
