"On January 20, 2013, David D. Ward Sr. 64 of Gilbert, West Virginia departed this life from Logan Regional Medical Center and went to meet his Lord and Savior, his precious daddy, Cassie Ward, and many other dear family and friends waiting for him in Heaven. He fought a long battle here on Earth and was looking forward to going home."David was born November 24, 1948 in Caples, West Virginia. He was a 1966 graduate of Man High School and a retired coal miner and owner of Trinity Heart Construction.
"David is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend and devoted wife of forty-six years, Linda Evans Ward. He described her as the “love of his life” and called her “Cakes”.
"From their marriage they were blessed with three children – April (Ronnie) Mounts, David (Brittney) Ward, Jr. and Angela (David) Sparks. Ten grandchildren – Justin (Sarah) Sparks, Ryan Davis, Cheyenne Ward (fiancé Tyler Griffith), David Ward III, Devon Poe, Gracie Sparks, Brooke Sparks, EmyLeigh Mitchell, Casey Sparks, and PaisLeigh Ward and one great-grandchild – Colton David Griffith all of Gilbert, West Virginia. When all their children and grandchildren were together David would often look to Linda and say “look what a beautiful mess we’ve created”.
"David is also survived by his beautiful mother, Virginia (Lee) Ward of Man, West Virginia, whom he credited with giving him his strong will and his knowledge of Jesus Christ. His two brothers who gave him the sisters he’d never had and his beautiful niece and nephews. –Paul (Eula) Ward of Jackson, Ohio and Michael (Tonia) Ward of Man, West Virginia, his niece Michelle (Christopher) Short of Edwards Air Force Base, California, and his nephews Jamie Ward of Jackson, Ohio and Michael (Tabitha) Ward of Man, West Virginia. He had very special relationships with them and they spent many years traveling and singing together. He was proud of the God serving men his brothers are and described them as his first friends and playmates. He loved their children like his own.
"David was “Poppy” to a host of young people that he met through church, his grandchildren, or his love of sports. He considered Morgan Estep and Anthony, James and Steven Vance his honorary grandchildren.
"He cherished and loved all the family and friends that he leaves behind. He often talked to the memories that he had with is best friend Scotty Sammons and his special relationship with his honorary son William “Joe” Poe and his brother-in-law James Evans Jr.
"David fought long and hard in his battle with heart and kidney disease. The Lord placed some very special people in his life during this time – Dr. Faridi, Christie Reed, and the entire staff of West Virginia Dialysis, Carolyn “Pringles” Gibson, Teresa Harvey and the staff of Dignity Hospice.
"The family wishes to thank his niece Tabatha Evans Lester who went out of her way to make his dialysis experience the best it could be, his dear friend Bonnie Lester who always made sure he had everything he needed, and his friends and pastors Anthony and Denise Hudgins and the Eagle Sanctuary family.
"Friends may gather with the family at Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert, West Virginia on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm and his funeral will be Thursday January 24, 2012 at 11:00 am with Bishop Anthony Hudgins, Reverend Doug Sparks and Reverend Paul Ward officiating. "Eltrue Blevins, born in Panther, West Virginia on October 1, 1927, to Sarah Margaret (Bryant) and Kelly Blevins. Early on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, Our Lord, and Father reached out his hand to lead his child, Eltrue, home. No more pain. No more suffering. Only peace with our Lord. Music, oh how he loved music, he was always either playing his guitar or banjo. All music, bluegrass, country, or gospel, as long as it was foot stomping and tugged at your heartstrings. He was a band member of the “Sons of West Virginia” along with his good friend Lyle Collins."His favorite meal of pinto beans, fresh spring onions with sweet cornbread and chicken livers with a nice cold glass of buttermilk always put a smile on his face. But don’t forget his chocolate chip cookies.
Eltrue was indeed a country boy, born and raised in West Virginia. His heart was deep in his beautiful mountain heritage. Growing up here he learned hands on a deep love for the land of his fathers...beautiful West Virginia. He served his country in the army, and he fought in the Korean War. He did not talk often of those times. Those sad times always brought a tear to his eye. Returning home from the service he worked on the building and design of many homes and businesses in McDowell County including the Count Gilu Motel in Welch."The majority of his life (94 years) he spent right here in McDowell County. This final year he resided in McDowell Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. His family in Maryland was working on arrangements to have him moved closer to home so that they could spend more time together. We will always picture him walking in his tree lined mountains or up in one of the Hollers fishing. We love you Pop.
"In addition to his parents Sarah Margaret and Kelly Blevins. Eltrue is preceded in death by his sons, Larry Edward Blevins of Maryland, son David Blevins of Illinois. Eltrue’s sisters, Mary Blevins-Vanover, Martha Bella Blevins-Reed, Maxine Blevins-Mullins, Maggie Blevins-Reed and brother Andrew Blevins. Zachary Smallwood, great-grandson of Eltrue had been working with him on the family history. While we wish we had an endless amount of time to relive all of his memories with him, we now rely on family and friends to share those memories with us. Please send any stories or pictures to Zachary at this email address: BlevinsFamily930@gmail.com. We would love to continue these memories in his honor."The Fanning Funeral Home of Welch is assisting with arrangements and handling the cremation services. They have been a great support to the family. You are greatly appreciated. A Family Memorial service will be held at a later date at the Beacon Baptist Church in White Marsh, Maryland. Eltrue wished to be laid to rest with his eldest son in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Rosedale, Md. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fanningfuneralhomes.com."
