"Carole Clay Ward; Age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away at Wilmington Hospital on July 6, 2008.
She was born February 19, 1922 in Mullens, WV. Carole came to Maryland and Delaware with her cousin Martha and they both worked for the defense plant in Elkton during World War II. She later worked as a sales clerk and a deli worker. She was a homemaker for much of her life. Carole was a loving compassionate person who gave to many people needing her help "Mom" or "Grandmom" enjoyed her family. She loved birthday parties and family functions always attending and often hosting them. She enjoyed painting in acrylic, watercolor and oil. She exhibited and sold her paintings. She also enjoyed writing poetry and limerics, getting a few published in the News Journal. Music, playing guitar, singing and writing music was special to her. She also enjoyed travel with her family or her friend Veronia Tannen who often vacationed with her.
Carole was predeceased by her husband, Christopher L. Ward, Jr.; her parents, Augusta Clay and Ambrose Riley Clay a son Jan Steven Osbourne (survived by wife Joy); a grandson, Allen Gellens and her siblings, Eva, Shirley, Carl, Edith, Emmett, Ambrose Jr., and Harold. Survived by daughters, Barbara Mitchell and husband Claude Mitchell, Sr., Elizabeth Gellens and husband Tracy Lamberth and a son, Anthony Ward and girlfriend Myrna Fair; grandchildren, Claude Mitchell Jr., Michael Mitchell, Martin Mitchell and wife Jackie, Daniel Mitchell, Shawn Mitchell and wife Misty, Stephanie Osbourne, Stacy Osbourne, Kimberly DiMaio and husband Dave, Joey Simpers and girlfriend Laurie McFaddien, Brandon Lamberth, Jamie Douty, Amy McElwee; great-grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Benjamin Mitchell, Morgan Mitchell, Aiden Osbourne, Dominick Osbourne, Kaiiden Ridpath, Amy DiMaio, Anthony DiMaio, Michael D. and Steven Denny.

"Sidney Wirt Clay, 63, a retired coal miner of Skygusty, died Sunday. March 5, 1950 in a hospital in Welch following a long Illness."Born April 2, 1886 in Pineville, Mr. Clay was a son of the late Colbert and Tealie Clay.
He was a resident of McDowell County for many and was last employed by the U.S. Coal & Coke company at Gary."Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Thompson Clay of Skygusty; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Good of Hiawatha and Eula Clay, at home; a son James Clay of Los Angeles, Ca.; a brother, Phil Clay; and two sisters, Mrs. Lake Wellmore of Big Sandy and Mrs. Belva Dameron of Fort Gay.
