"Fred Johnson Sanders, 80, of Kelso died Dec. 26, 2009 in Vancouver."He was born April 3, 1929, in St. Albans, W.V., to Frank Power Sanders Sr. (electrician) and Gladys (Lambert) Sanders. Fred was the youngest of five and came to Washington from West Virginia as a child with his family. He graduated from White Pass High School
in Randle and participated in every sport, winning awards and trophies."He served in the Coast Guard off the waters of Alaska during the Korean War. He was a staunch Democrat and active member of the Electricians' Union.
"Fred married Katie Marie Taylor Oct. 31, 1953, in Kelso and fathered five children: Debra, Danita, Alan, Steve and Joel. Additionally, Katie brought two children to the marriage, Brockman "Randy" and Roger Tatum.
"Fred thought there were only two kinds of music - country and western. He loved to hunt for treasures at garage sales, auctions, antique shows and other bargain-hunting events. He always was up for a good party, and he enjoyed laughing, eating and playing cards.
"Fred is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by his children, eight grandchildren and one great-grand child. He leaves relatives and friends throughout Washington and Oregon, including a sister and brother Frank Sanders Jr. Fred's family extends a special thanks to the many people who helped care for Fred in his last months of his life.
