"Henry Thomas Turpin Sr., 79, of Coaldale, W.Va. a retired coal mining foreman, died of cancer April 1 at his son's home in Coaldale after a lengthy illness. Mr. Turpin was born in Premier, W.Va., and began working in the mines as a teen-ager. He retired as a foreman in 1982 from Massey Goal Co. in West Virginia after many years of employment. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bramble, W.Va., and the United Mine Workers Union local in Welch, W.Va. His interests included gardening. His wife, Emma Beulah Webb Turpin, died in 1995. Surviving are four daughters, S. Jean Phipps of Gambrills, Ina R. Nicely of Laurel, Barbara A Cain of Hanover and Dreama G. Quesinberry of Coaldale; two sons, Henry Thomas Turpin Jr. of Millersville and William E. Turpin of Coaldale; one sister, Lucy Asbury of Odenton; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral ; Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday . Burial will be in Epiphany Episcopal Church cemetery..."
