"Edward H. Mahaffey Jr., age 87, of Beckley, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness."Born Dec. 16, 1920, at Salem, Va., he was the son of the late Edward H. Mahaffey Sr. and Elsie Jane Earley Mahaffey.
"Mr. Mahaffey was a former coal miner, and a retired machinist. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Grace Primitive Baptist Church. He had made his home in Beckley for the past 14 years, having previously made his home in Barger Springs.
"Mr. Mahaffey was preceded in death by two children, Nota Jane Gibson and Paul Alex-ander Mahaffey; and a sister, Oc-ie Jane Sto-ver.
"Survivors include his wife, Wana Walker Mahaffey; two sons, Edwin Mahaffey and Perry Mahaffey, both of Beckley; two brothers, Otis Mahaffey of Mentor, Ohio, and Bruce Mahaffey of Freedom, Ohio; two sisters, Beulah Foley of Sophia and Mabel Rastellini of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Kevin Gibson, Shelly Warburton and Justin Mahaffey; and four great-grandchildren.
"Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Elder Keith Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the Agee and Walker Cemetery at Egeria..."
