"LERONA — Patty Cassady, 96, of Lerona, W.Va., formerly of Iaeger, departed this life Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Gordon and Shirley Swartz of Bent Mountain Road, Lerona, W.Va. A special lady in life and death, she left peacefully surrounded by her loving family, who are thankful to our Lord for allowing us to have her for almost 97 years. "Patty was born October 10, 1913 at Panther, W.Va., a daughter of the late Adam and Charlotta Justice. She and Joseph “Joe” Cassady were married for 62 years before his death in 1994. In 1944 she and husband Joe opened and operated Cassady’s Repair Shop at Johnnycake near Iaeger. Before coming to Iaeger she was owner and operator of a gas station at Panther. Patty was a member of the Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church at Ikes Fork, and was a member of the Iaeger Rebekah Lodge in Iaeger.
"In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cassady; four brothers, Matthew, Boyd, Zeb, and Walter; and five sisters, Virgie, Medie, Maggie, Mary Belle, and Clemmie. Patty was the last surviving member of her original family. "Survivors include one son, Ben Cassady of Iaeger; three daughters, Ruth Webb and husband Gail and Drema Bernice Cassady, all of Iaeger, and Shirley Swartz and husband Gordon of Lerona, W.Va.; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Patty also leaves many friends, who loved her dearly. In Mercer County her friends were Alice Jones, Betty Shorter, Minnie Lester, Darlene Osborne, and Karen Davis, also a host of nurses and Beckie from Mountaineer Nursing. For those of us who are saved we will be reunited again. "Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 2 o’clock with Elder Edward L. Cline officiating at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial Cemetery at Roderfield, W.Va...."
