"STATESVILLE, N.C. — Willard John Stewart, 64, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the Gordon Hospice House."Mr. Stewart was born June 10, 1947, in Matheny, W.Va., and was the son of the late Alfred Kelly Stewart and WillaDene McAlpine Stewart. He attended Matheny schools and Oceana High School in Matheny, W.Va., and served in the U.S. Army Special Forces from 1964-1968. He was a long-distance truck driver for Cargo Transportation and disability retired in 2005. He was first married to the late Sherry Blouse Stewart and on Oct. 13, 2004, was married to Margaret Dorece McCoy Stewart, who survives of the home.
"In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Eugene Stewart (Suzanne) of Statesville, Burt Stewart (Nicole) of Buffalo, N.Y., Hollis Stewart of Northtonwanda, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Page and Samantha Stewart, two stepdaughters, Shannon Eudy, Tamara Mills, and two stepgrandchildren, Dylan Vargas and Alicia Lira.
"He was preceded in death by a half brother, Hylton Stewart, and a brother, Rodney Stewart.
"Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2011, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at a later date in Northtonwanda, N.Y. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home...."

"Ross served in the Combat infantry during WWII attaining the rank of Sgt. He saw action in Central Europe, Ardenne Forest and Rhineland. His awards included the American Theater Ribbon, European/African Medal, WWII Victory Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct and Occupation Medal for Germany.
"Ross was a founding member and Sunday School Superintendent as well as a Deacon at Pineville Southern Baptist Church. He was employed as an accountant and Vice President of Administration at Robinson Phillips Coal Company and later employed by A.T. Massey for 48 years. He was a member and former President of the Pineville Lions Club where he received the Leonard Jarrett Award and the Melvin Jones Fellowship.
"Ross’ hobbies included baking, woodworking and spending time with his wife and family.
"Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Lou Withrow; a daughter, Debbie Bowling and her husband, Donnie, of Pineville; a son, David Withrow and his wife, Julie, of Ludlow, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Jeff Withrow of Carbondale, Ill., Katie Withrow of Ludlow, Ill., and Brett Bowling of Pineville.
