"GUNTER CLEMMONS - Sidney V. Gunter, 81, passed away quietly with his family beside him at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem on Friday, April 3, 2009. Mr. Gunter was born October 30, 1927 in Pineville, West Virginia. He was the son of Hobart and Ina Gunter. He was proud of his West Virginia heritage. Many of his fondest memories were as a youth in the West Virginia hills. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister Lucille Stewart all formerly of Pineville, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca Gunter. She was the love of his life. One daughter, Elizabeth Gunter-Woods, and her husband, Duane Woods of Lexington, NC. His beautiful granddaughter, Sydney Elizabeth Woods who he loved and cherished. His brothers, Harry Gunter and wife, Renva of Abingdon, VA; James Gunter and his wife, Charlene of Pineville, WV; Tom Gunter of Oceana, WV; sisters, Mary Morgon of Pineville, WV; Kitty Childress and husband, Joe of Glade Springs, WV; and Shirley True and her husband, Richard of Sacramento, CA. The family of Mr. Gunter would like to thank the following people - their neighbors in Clemmons for their friendship, many acts of kindness, and invaluable assistance during his illness; Kimmel and Patty Parker of Claypool Hill, VA for a lifetime of friendship; Dr. Antonius Miller and his staff at Wake Forest University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Despite a grave prognosis, their dedication to combating lung cancer allowed my father to devote seven years of love and affection to his beloved granddaughter. Finally, a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House for the comfort they provided my father in his final days.
