"OCEANA — Elva Louise Matney, 77, of Oceana, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a long, courageous battle with cancer."Born Oct. 30, 1931, at Pardee, Va., she was the daughter of the late Everett and Maxie Watts Spence.
"Elva Louise was a longtime resident of Wyoming County, and was also a longtime member of Kopperston Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
"Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Jack Matney of Oceana; three daughters, Barbara Sims and her husband, Frank, of Tampa, Fla., Debbie Paynter of Wayne, Mich., and Linda Lovins and her husband, Jimmy, of Beckley; a brother, Johnny Spence and his wife, Betty, of Richmond, Ky.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
