"JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Ralph “Salty” Morgan, 89, 1229 Meadowview Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, in the V.A. Hospice Community Center. "He was a native of Fanrock, West Virginia, and had lived in Johnson City since 1955. Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Powell and Ida Mitchem Morgan and was a member of the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during WWII. Mr. Morgan received several decorations and citations including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart, a Bronze Campaign Star and a Good Conduct Medal. He loved to fish, walk and spending time with his family and friends. "In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Lee Ward Morgan, in 1991; a sister, Opal Thomas; three brothers, Clifford Morgan, Kelsey and Troy England; also a stepson, Danny Huffman. "Survivors include three daughters, Loretha Fortier and her husband, Richard, Piney Flats, Constance Morgan and her fiancé, Tommy Tucker, of Johnson City and Angela Morgan Barcelona of Clarksville, TN; two stepdaughters, Pat Ness and husband, Mike, Dallas, TX, and Betty Chambers and husband, Robert, of Lenoir, NC; a brother, Junior Morgan, Beckley, WV; three grandsons, Nikolas Roberts, Dallas, TX, Evan Barnette, Boone, NC, and Cory Harrison, Johnson City; also his ex-wife and Loretha’s mother, Lucy Forry, Florida; special friends, Ted and Mary Hilton, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.
