In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Noble Mitchem, Cobert Mitchem, and Cledis Mitchem; and sisters, Edith Nichols, Velvie White, Vivian Reed, Vallie Combs, and Faye Reed. "He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Bertha Havens Mitchem of the home; his only daughter, Debbie Minnix and husband Bob of Princeton, W.Va.; his only grandson and his pride and joy, Bobby “Bo” Minnix, Jr. and wife Jessica of Huntington, W.Va.; his brother, Harry Mitchem and wife Claudine of Brushfork, W.Va.; his sisters, Ivy Mills of Semmes, Ala., Necy Mitchem of Bluewell, W.Va. "Sidney Franklin Mills Jr., who retired as detective from the Mobile Po li ce Department after
more than 25 years, died Wednesday. He was 94. Mills was a native of
Wetumpka, Ala., and a longtime resident of Semmes. He joined the Mobile
police force as a patrolman in 1941. He became a detective in 1954. A
veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and
attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of Semmes First Baptist
Church. He had been a member of the Masons. Survivors include his wife of
59 years, Ivy Mitchem Mills; and two children, Carol Jarvis and Sidney
Franklin Mills III, all of Semmes; four grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m.
service at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Burial will be in Semmes
First Baptist Church Cemetery..."
