"Melvin Monroe McNew, 77 of Dublin, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born September 18, 1926 in Kentucky the son of the late Novel and Mona Chapman McNew. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Pulaski County V.F.W. Post #1184 and of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by his wife, Alice Olena McNew; five daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie Jordan, Waynesboro, Retta Gaye and Herbie Dotson, Logan, W.Va., Kathryn and Jeff Sammons, Princeton, W.Va., Nony and Chris Bishop, Cornelius, N.C., Carolyn and Eric Strock, Bland; three sons, Steve Johnson, Dublin, Melvin, Jr., and Regina McNew, Westfield, N.C., Johnny and Michelle Johnson, Danville; ten grandchildren, Jason Harless, Jonathan Harless, Channing Hash, Timothy McNew, Shelley Caudle, Jenna Caudle, Anthony McNew, Logan Johnson, Cole Strock, Kennedy Bishop. "She had made her home in the Tazewell area all her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith.
