"KOPPERSTON — Florence Mae Lambert, 79, departed this life Monday, September 27, 2010, following a long illness. Born September 12, 1931, in Boomer she was the daughter of the late John and Virginia Bailey Pomeroy. "Mrs. Lambert was a homemaker, a faithful member of the Kopperston Presbyterian Church and worked for Dept. of Human Services as a social worker. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her goodness, kindness and always having a smile. "In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Pomeroy. "Those left to cherish her memory are a son, J. Douglas Lambert his companion and Mrs. Lambert's caregiver, Jean Diven of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Libby Lilly and husband, Ronnie of Flat Top; two sisters, Freda Nottingham of Kopperston and Phyllis Pomeroy of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Amanda McDonald, Justin Stewart and wife Michelle of Beaver and Hal Stewart and wife, Danielle of Hurricane; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. "A celebration of Mrs. Lambert's life will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, at Kopperston Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joan Stewart officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Mausoleumn, Matheny..."

"KOPPERSTON — Freda Ruth Pomeroy Nottingham, 85, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013.

"Born August 13, 1927, in Helen, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Pomeroy and Virginia Bailey Pomeroy.

"Freda graduated from Oceana High School in 1944 and was elected as Miss Oceana. She served as the Postmaster of Kopperston Post Office for 26 years, following in her mother’s footsteps.

"She was a member of Kopperston Presbyterian Church and served as Treasurer for many years. She held numerous offices with the Eastern Star and was both a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.

"Freda was a gifted artisan, an excellent seamstress, photographer, avid reader, and loved all types of music. She loved fun and people. She doted on her pets. Friendship was very important to her and her friends were family to her.

"In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin M. Hess; a son, Eugene “Skipper” Nottingham; two sisters, Phylis Padrick and Florence Lambert; one brother, John W. “Bill” Pomeroy; and many friends whom she considered family.

"Survivors include a daughter, Connie N. Toler and husband, James; a son, Barry P. Nottingham and wife, Pat; grandchildren, Gina Kohler Burks and companion, Michael Maynard, David Marshall, Tommy Marshall, Ashford Toler, Alisa Hess, Issac Hess and wife, Kacey, Darelle Toler King and husband, Timothy, Michelle Toler Puzio and husband, Larry; great-grandchildren, Adam Burks, Destiny Burgess, Bowie Kuehl, Hadley Hess, Lorean and Ryan King, and Michale Puzio; a great-great-granddaughter, Anabel Ruth, who will arrive later this month; her God daughter, Ona Mitchell Huspeth; her beloved nieces and nephews; and dear friends, John and Susan Mitchell, Tammy Green, David and Joy Mayberry, Calvin and Betty Blankenship, Pearl Tipper and Judy Trent.

"The family would like to thank Rachel Stover, NP, Hospice of Southern West Virginia and Ashford Toler, who assisted his mother by providing tender care for his grandmother.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Southern WV, PO Box 1472, "Beckley, WV 25802.

"Born Jan. 14, 1930, at Bull Creek in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Octavia Deskins Blankenship. "Mrs. Riffe spent her childhood in McDowell County, where she graduated from Iaeger High School. She was an active member of the Bethany Regular Baptist Church at Ikes Fork and the Friendship Association. "She had been a resident of Raleigh County since 1954, having lived at Sandlick for the past 25 years. She had been employed at Holiday Inn and Days Inn, Beckley, having last worked for Gold Star Tours as a tour escort. "She had been very active in school activities at Shady Spring and Trap Hill high schools for a number of years. "She was preceded in death by her husband, Cullen Riffe on Oct. 31, 1998; an infant son, Freddie Dean; three brothers, William, Walter and Leonard; and two infant sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Dorothy Blankenship. "Survivors include a son, Jack and his wife, Wanzie, of Glen Daniel; two daughters, Deborah L. Miller and her husband, Skip, of Beckley, and Amanda Kirk and her husband, Wayne, of Beaver; two granddaughters, Heather Louise and Leah Dawn Kirk and two sisters, Ida Woodward of Hendersonville, Tenn., and June Green of Hamilton, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. "Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with Elders Eddie Cline, Bryce Phillips, Cecil Belcher and Jack Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley..."

"On Tuesday September 28th, 2010, as dawn began to break, Retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Deborah Riffe Miller, died at Raleigh General Hospital, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 58 years of age. "The second of three children, Deborah Lynn Riffe was born on February 19, 1952 at Welch, W.Va. Her parents were the late Cullen and Louise Blankenship Riffe. "“Debbie” as she was affectionately known by family and friends spent her childhood at Beaver. She was a 1970 graduate of Shady Spring High School. After high school, Debbie entered the U.S. Air Force. She was a graduate of the Air Force Senior Academy and the NCO Leadership School. Her tours of duty were in Korea, Turkey, Germany, and Mississippi. In 1971 while in Biloxi, Mississippi, Debbie met fellow serviceman, Walter “Skip” Miller from New York. They were married on April Fool’s Day in 1972. This year Debbie and Skip celebrated 38 years of marriage. They have been blessed with a wonderful life together, traveling to many different parts of the United States and the world. After 23 years of service to her country, Deborah retired as Senior Master Sergeant. She and Skip returned to the Beckley area, making their home in the Woodcrest Addition of Beckley. Deborah became involved in the family owned travel business, Coach USA where she was the facility manager. More recently she has been involved with the Raleigh County Community Action Association. A Roman Catholic, Deborah and Skip worshiped at St. Francis de Sales Church here in Beckley. "In addition to her beloved Skip those left to cherish her memory is her dear brother and sister, Jackie Riffe and his wife, Wanzie of Glen Daniel and Amanda Kirk and her husband, Wayne of Beaver; Skip’s family, her mother-in-law, Catherine R. Miller of Ocala, FL and her sister-in-law, Karen Horodiski and her husband John of Long Island, NY will deeply miss Debbie, as well as her nieces and nephews, Heather and Leah, John Andrew, Katie and Kristen. "The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 1st, at 1 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church with Monsignor Samuel Sacus as the celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity where Deborah will be laid to rest with full military honors..."
