"OCEANA — Kyle Everett Walters, 61, of Oceana, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. "Born August 8, 1948, in Lynco, WV, he was the son of the late Harold Walters Sr. of Daleville, AL, and the late Geneva Cline Walters of Lynco, WV. "Kyle was the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and later served as the President of the Oceana Boy Scout Troop in the early 1960s. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 as a rank of Specialist 5. He was in the 1st Class of E.M.T.s for the State of WV in 1971 and worked for OH-9 Ambulance service for 9 years. Kyle worked 26 years for U.S. Steel Mining and was a member of the UMWA and District 1713. "Kyle was a proud member of the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department since June 3rd, 1966. He served as the rank of Captain for 20 years and as the Secretary-Treasurer for 30 years. Having served 44 years on the department, Kyle was the longest serving member. "Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Deloris of 38 years, two sons, Brad and Tiffany of Sevierville, TN, Patrick and Ashley of Oceana, WV, three grandsons, Jordan, Hunter and Peyton Kyle, a granddaughter, Aleyah, two brothers, Harold Jr. and Jerry both of Sevierville, TN, three half brothers, Norman, Dale and Randy, and two half sisters, Patricia Robbins and Druzella Davey. Kyle also left behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members who cherished him dearly. "Some of Kyle’s greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren, serving his community, and his church. "Kyle will be honored with a full Fireman’s Service on Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home with Bishop Randy Bowles and Rev. J.L. Riffe officiating. "BARRETVILLE, Tenn. — Rachel Deloris (Ray) Conti, daughter of Bruce Ray and Sylvia Halsey Ray Snuffer (both deceased), widow of Capt. Frank J. Conti, USMC-Retired, died at her home in Barretville, Tenn., on July 22. She was 70. "The daughter of a coal miner and stepdaughter to a Church of God pastor (William S. Snuffer), Mrs. Conti was raised in Wyoming County. After marriage, she traveled the world as a Marine Corps wife, and duty stations included Camp LeJeune, N.C., Willow Grove, Pa., Okinawa, Japan, and her favorite place, Beaufort, S.C. She raised three children while supporting her husband’s two tours of Vietnam and other extended absences required by the military. The family retired at the last duty station of NAS Millington (Memphis, Tenn.) in 1979. "She was a past President of the Officer’s Wives Club at MCAS, Futenma, Okinawa, a supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment, an active member of the Shelby County, Tenn., Republican Party and the Christian Coalition. Mrs. Conti was a vocal advocate for children’s rights, and also supported the American Legion and VWF, as well as numerous other charities. In her fifties she returned to school and earned her GED. She enjoyed reading, genealogy and listening to Pastor John Hagee. She was “Aunt Rachel” to many, as well as an honorary “Grandmother” to many. "Mrs. Conti is survived by her children, Donna Conti of Washington, D.C., Frank (Rusty) Conti of Atoka, Tenn., and Lisa Wilson of Millington, Tenn., her grandchildren Philip Wesley Smith of Bartlett, Sarah Ann Wilson of Millington, and one great-grandson, Landon Bumpus Smith of Bartlett. "Also surviving are sisters, Rita Pauley of Mullens, Shirley Raye of Otsego; brother, Darry Snuffer of Bolt; stepsisters, Arbutus Lafferty, Shirley Day, Naomi Bailey; stepbrothers, Larry, Darrell and Harold Snuffer. Predeceasing Mrs. Conti were stepbrothers, Jerry and Curtis Snuffer. She has one surviving Aunt, Rosella Milam of Arlington, Va. "Her fiery personality will be greatly missed by her best friend, Terri Miller, and family, her sisters-in-law Cassie Conti, Teresa Snuffer and Christine Snuffer, brother-in-law Darrell Pauley; daughter-in-law Tina Conti; sons-in-law Tom Smith and Juan Roque, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and the many friends she had made in her lifetime. "Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Lester Church of God, Lester, with Rev. Ernie Francis officiating. Burial will follow in the Snuffer Cemetery, Bolt.
