"Born February 21, 1942 in Itmann, he was the son of the late Joseph Buell , and Truby Jackson Sparks.

"Joe was a life long resident of Wyoming County, he served in the United States Army, was a Green beret, and part of the Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.

"He worked as a coal miner, a federal mine inspector, and served as a representative for the United Mine Workers of America. In 1996 he was elected to serve in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Joe was an avid WVU fan and enjoyed going to the football games. He also loved spending time at his camp on the Greenbrier River.

"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Judy Phillips Sparks.

"Those left to cherish his memory, include his two children: Bobby Sparks and his wife Sherry, and Amy Short. Three grandchildren: Jenny Estep and her husband Daniel, Tyler Short, and Joseph Sparks. One great grandchild Jude Estep. One sister Patricia "Patty" Jamerson, and host of extended family and friends.

"Obituary for John L. Jamerson Taken from the Gainesville Sun Newspaper, 3 September 2008

"John L. Jamerson was welcomed to heaven on September 1, 2008. He was 73. He was courageous and brave throughout his life, including his battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 19, 1934, in Wacahoota, Florida, to the proud parents of Johnie and Ruby Cellon Jamerson. As a young man, John was a deacon, and member of the youth church council of Kanapaha Presbyterian Church. In 1953, he graduated from Gainesville High School, where he played for the baseball team. He then went on to serve in the Army Reserves.

"John worked in construction all of his life. He first working as a brick mason and later started his own company, Jamerson Construction. He was known for his attention to detail and quality; his houses were featured several times in the local Parades of homes.

"John served as a spokesperson for the Alachua County committee as a liaison between builders and inspectors. He was a member of the Brick Masons’ Local Union and the Home Builders Association. For many years, he also was a member of the American Legion and Elks Lodge.

"For much of his life, John spent his free time fishing, hunting, and bowling. His passion for music was only matched by his love for dancing. He was an avid reader and looked forward to the challenge of a cross-word puzzle. On Saturdays, John could always be counted on to cheer on his favorite, the Florida Gators.

"John was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, William “Bill”, Harry, David and Robert (Bobby) and his sister Peggy. He is survived by his daughters, Charlene, Lana and Kim, his brother Ernest (Ernie); his ex-wife Patty, who remained his best friend; his grandsons Taylor and Austin, many nieces and nephews, and loved ones throughout Florida and West Virginia.

"Services will be held at Kanapaha Presbyterian Church, 6221 SW 75th Street, on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Dawn Conti officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4th from 6 to 8:00 PM at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue."
