"NEW BEDFORD — Ethel (Gombos) Leavitt, 96, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Home on Friday, May 8, 2009. She was the widow of Charles Adams and John F. Leavitt, Sr., and daughter of the late Gabor and Wilma Gombos. "She was born in West Virginia and lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. "Survivors include her two sisters, Wilma Short of KY and Mary Smith of OH; two brothers, Bill and John Gombos, both of OH; her step daughter, Carol Landry; her stepson, James Leavitt; her two granddaughters who were her caregivers, Sally Cabral and Linda Hougasian; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; her close friend, Betty Martin and her family; Jeannie and The Homestead; and the staff and friends from Project Independence. "She was the sister of the late Helen, Margaret, Joe and Gabe Gombos and step mother of the late John F. Leavitt, Jr., and Marion (Desrochers) Correia. "In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. Family will be receiving relatives and friends at Rock Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 — 11 a.m., with her Funeral Services at 11 a.m...."
