"On Monday, December 7th, 2009 our beloved Perry Lester of the Sunny Acres Division, Beckley passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital. He was in his 91st year."Born Perry Ellis Lester on January 17, 1918, at Bradshaw, he was one of five children born to the late John and Rendi Mitchem Lester. "He was the last survivor of his immediate family."Perry spent his childhood at Bradshaw. "A coal miner for 40 years, he retired from Harris #1, Eastern Associated Mines at Wharton. Perry was a long time resident of Kopperston. He was of the Baptist faith and in later years he attended Bethel Freewill Baptist Church at MacArthur. Over the years he has served as Sunday school teacher and a deacon."Perry was first married to the former Magnolia (Nola) O’Quinn. To this union of over 50 years, was born eight children. "Nola died in 1991. A daughter, Marie and a son, Larry have both preceded him in death."In November of 1996, Perry married long time family friend, Margaret Webb Bailey. They have shared 13 wonderful years together and blended their families as one."In addition to Margaret, Perry is the dear father of six living children, John Lester and his wife Martha of Titusville, FL, Lucy Cooper and her husband, Joe of Crab Orchard, Tabitha Maxey of Kopperston, Sharon Atwell and her husband David of Beckley, Dare Cline and her husband Tony of Lexington, KY, Samantha Kleinfelder and her husband Bill of Cocoa, FL; the fond stepfather of Margaret’s son, Guy Bailey and his wife Shelly of Chicago, IL, the sweet grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren."At the end of the day, when Perry’s family reflects on his life they say, “He was a bold witness for Jesus Christ.” And so now, we give Perry back to his Lord and Savior."Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors, Billy Calhoun, Terry Hatcher, and Scott Lester officiating. Committal services will be at 3 p.m. at the Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny..."
