"GLEN FORK-Arwon Eugene Blankenship 76, departed this life Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. "Born July 25, 1933, in Clearfork he was the son of the late Virgil and Ruth Tilley Blankenship. "Mr. Blankenship was attended Baileysville High until leaving at the age of 16 to join the U.S. Army where he received many metal which include, Distinguished Service Metal, Korean Service Metal, 4 Bronze Stars, 1 Silver Star, Korean Presidential Citation, Purple Heart, Army Occupation Metal, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge 2nd Award, National Defense Service Medal, VietNam Campaign Medal, VietNam Service Metal with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, 8 Over Seas Service Bars, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Forces Medal. Mr. Blankenship retired from the U.S. Army on August 31, 1973 with 24 years of dedicated service to his country. "In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Imogene Acord Blankenship; a son, Larry Joseph Blankenship; two brothers, Onnie Blankenship and Raymond Blankenship; and a sister, Florence Maynor. "Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Phillp Blankenship of Glen Fork and Richard Blankenship of Texas; three daughters, Doris Wallace and her husband, Randall of Matheny, Tina Bolen and her husband Norvel, Jr. of Glen Fork and Linda Walsh and her husband, Joseph of Glen Fork; five brothers, Danny, Bill, Bob, Hershel, and David Blankenship; four sisters, Mary Jones, Frances Jonas, Mabel Ridenour, and Phostina Blankenship; five grandchildren, Shawna Hall, Brandon George Wallace, Norvel Edward Bolen, III, Joseph Arwon Bolen and David Bryce Stafford; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. "A celebration of Mr. Blankenship's life will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009, Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ernest Francis, Jr. officiating.
