"James Lloyd Burchette (Bud), 82 of Pineville, WV passed away Tuesday June 4, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley WV after a long illness with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and a paralyzed diaphragm. Born in Davy WV, James was one of six children of the late Treely and Lucinda Bailey Burchette. James was a member of the Rock Castle Baptist Church where he served several years as a trustee, deacon, and sang with the choir. He served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He was a member of the Pineville fire department for several years and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a member of the American Legion. Additionally, he served as a member of the National Rifle Association. He worked for thirty years as the chief electrician for Consolidated Coal Company."James married his high school sweetheart in 1952; Miriam Lois Lester with whom he spent the rest of his life with until present date. James and Miriam traveled the world together and visited Europe on two separate occasions. They traveled throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home. James was a great provider for his family and was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family never doubted his love for him and held him in the utmost regard. James adored his daughter Patricia Burchette Holliday and with his love, patience, and kindness taught her to be the woman she is today. James also enjoyed spending time with his grandson and taught him various skills such as hunting, fishing, golf, basketball, driving, etc. Above all else, he taught his grandson how to be a man and treat others with kindness.
"James will be sadly missed by all that knew him. James had a deep reverence for his creator which was exemplified with his kindness and generosity. He was preceded in death by his father, Treely and mother Lucinda Burchette, and his brother Tom Burchette. He is survived by his loving wife Miriam Lester Burchette of Pineville WV, daughter, Patricia Anne Holliday and husband John Holliday of Flat Top Lake, Ghent WV, grandson David James Gerau and wife Eileen Marie Gerau and one great grandchild Emma Marie Gerau. Additionally he is survived by his sisters Juanita Growe, Joyce Miller, Edward (Chub) Burchette, his wife Jill, and Eugene Burchette. "Although she went by Burton, Ruth Marie Burton, may or may not have legally been "Burton". I do not know if Elmer Burton adopted her or not. Funny the things you never ask your parents when they are alive. I do know that her father was Claude Farmer (who was not married to Eileen Shumate/Burton) at the time of the birth. I probably can find the Court document that "found" Ruth was Claude Farmer's daughter - which was after the death of Claude sometime in the 1970's I think. In preparation for that court case, I don't think my parents ever found my mother's birth certificate; I believe she was born at home. I'm not sure it exists. I've searched the WV vital records under "Burton, Farmer, and Shumate and do not get a hit."

Funny the things you never ask your parents when they are alive. I do know that her father was Claude Farmer (who was not married to Eileen Shumate/Burton) at the time of the birth. I probably can find the Court document that "found" Ruth was Claude Farmer's daughter - which was after the death of Claude sometime in the 1970's I think. In preparation for that court case, I don't think my parents ever found my mother's birth certificate; I believe she was born at home. I'm not sure it exists. I've searched the WV vital records under "Burton, Farmer, and Shumate and do not get a hit."
