He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Local Union 7604 and the UMWA. He was retired from Kopperston No. 1 mine after 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, gospel music and being with his family and friends. "In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Powers and Pauline Bailey; and three brothers-in-law, Hiram Acord, Oley Bailey and the Rev. Ancel Powers. "Survivors include two brothers, the Rev. Elmer Day and his wife, Hope, of Mocksville, N.C., and the Rev. Robert Day and his wife, Mary Ellen, of South Hill, Va.; a sister, Daphine Acord of Glen Fork; a special niece, Carol Lafferty and her husband, Ronnie, of Glen Fork, with whom he resided; 12 nephews; five nieces; a host of great-nephews and nieces and great-great-nephew and nieces; and special caregiver, Linda Hawkins of Ravencliff.
