"PRINCETON ? Miriam June Daugherty de la Piedra, 70, of 150 Piedra Drive in Princeton, died peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at her home. "She was born Oct. 25, 1935, in Hemlock, N.C. to James Wilson and Clara Barton Farmer Daugherty, who preceded her in death. Mrs. de la Piedra graduated from Riverview High School in Rich Hill, N.C. in 1953. Immediately upon graduation, she began her nursing studies at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., where she met her husband Dr. Jorge de la Piedra while he was completing his orthopedic training in the United States. They were married May 1, 1955 and lived in Charlotte where their first two children were born. In November 1957 they moved to Lima, Peru with their two children. They stayed in Lima till December 1959, at which time they returned to the United States with their third child. On January 1, 1960, the entire family moved to Mullens, where they lived till they moved to Princeton on May 28, 1966. Mrs. de la Piedra?s hobbies included cooking, baking, reading, gardening and caring for all animals, furthermore, she was considered a second mother to many people who knew her. Mrs. de la Piedra learned to speak fluent Spanish in Lima. While in Peru, she learned the culture of this country and other Latin American countries and learned how to cook many Peruvian dishes to perfection. "She was preceded in death by her husband from Chiclayo, Peru, Dr. Jorge Alberto de la Piedra Quinones, to whom she was married for more than 49 years. Preceding her in death, besides her aforementioned parents and husband, are a baby son, John David de la Piedra; two brothers, Boyd Ralph and James Rex Daugherty; two sisters, Eva Fern D. Miniaci and Iva Lou D. Shannon; three nephews, and one great nephew. "Mrs. de la Piedra is survived by a daughter, Ana Maria de la Piedra of the home; two sons, Jorge Antonio and James Michael de la Piedra, also of the home; two sisters, Karen D. Jones and husband Ray, and Sharon D. Santa Rita and husband Sam; two sisters in law, Ella and Nancy Daugherty; and one brother in law, Donald Jack Shannon. She is also survived by an aunt, Mabel Farmer; ten nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews, and one great nephew. "Upon the decedent?s request, her body will be cremated. No funeral or memorial services will follow..."
