"On Tuesday, March 20, 2007, after a long and active life, Georgia Marie Blevins passed away in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. She was in her 92nd year. "Born July 21, 1914, in McDowell County, Georgia was one of five children born to the late Carlos and Pearl McMillion Johnston. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. "Georgia spent her childhood at Hemphill and was a longtime resident of Gary; she was a member of Gary United Methodist church. She settled in Beckley in 1963 on Hemlock Street. Known affectionately as “Grandma B,” Georgia was blessed with a very full life. She lived independently until the age of 89. An avid reader, she enjoyed maintaining her home, working in her garden, planting her flowers, crocheting and ceramics. "In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Blevins, in October 1975; a son, Jerry and his wife, Shelby; a sister, Audrey Hawkins; and brothers, Carlos, Glen and Howard. "She was the beloved mother of Ginger Metric and her husband, Kennis, of Ball Street, with whom she made her home the past three and half years; a nephew she raised, Howard Pruner and his wife, Toni, of Matthews, N.C.; the loving grandmother of Kenny Metrick, Bruce Metrick and his wife, Jaime, Melissa Erickson and her husband, Doug, Jennifer Stover and her husband, Kevin, and Sherri Kirkman and her husband, Ken; and the dear great-grandmother of 13 great-grandchildren. "Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Roger Pauley officiating. Committal service will be at 3 p.m. in the Garden of Devotion at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton..."
