"Glade Spring, VA – James Calvin “Shadow” Perdue, age 70, passed on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home. Mr. Perdue was born and raised in West Virginia, lived many years in Buchanan County, VA, and moved to Glade Spring in 1998. James was a 1966 graduate of Big Creek High School in War, WV. He loved, fishing, gardening, friends, and his family. James was a retired coal miner and a member of U.M.W.A. Local #1374. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sid Perdue and Alice Yates Perdue; daughter, Sylvia Perdue; brothers, Robert Perdue, Glenwood Perdue, and William Perdue; and sister, Joann Boyd.He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia LoJean Perdue; son, Randall Perdue and wife Wilma of Glade Spring, VA; brother, Perry Perdue and wife Claudette of Welch, WV; sisters, Elizabeth Kennedy of Bartley, WV and Florence Blankenship and husband Doug of Jupiter, FL; grandson, MacKenzie James Perdue and fiancée Alexus O’Neal; two cats; and two dogs.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Minister Tom Crise officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Green Hills Memory Gardens with Tony Surber, MacKenzie Perdue, Junior Hayden, Billy Cannon, Jerry Ferguson, and Malcom Haynes serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harmon Lester, Dewayne Vest, and his CB buddies.

" Zola Marie Boyd, 87, of Warriormine passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 in Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, VA.
"Born December 3, 1929 in Yukon, she was the daughter of the late Joel Ray and Pearl Honaker Ray. She was a graduate of Bluefield State College and received her Master’s Degree from WVU. She retired as a Reading Specialist from the McDowell County Board of Education. She taught for over 30 years with most of her career spent at War Elementary School. She was of the Holiness Faith.
"In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Boyd; five brothers, Chester, Billy, Estel, Jimmy and Lawrence Ray; and three sisters, Florine Richardson, Margaret Boyd and Peggy Deel.
"Those left to cherish her memory are her son, William Boyd of Warriormine; two sisters, Betty Hayes and Ruth Pack both of Warriormine; and 4 grandchildren, Janna Conn and husband Nathan of Tazewell, VA., Zachary Boyd of Warriormine, Nathan Mitchell of Bluefield, and Jared Mitchell ofWarriormine; and 2 great great grandchildren, Parker and Benjamin Conn of Tazewell.
