Harold coached his son’s baseball teams and was active in anything his wife and children were involved in and will be remembered in the legacy he left in his children and grandchildren. "EAST BEND, N.C. — Sylvia Bailey, 68, formerly of Pineville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in Forysth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C., following a short illness. "Born Aug. 13, 1938, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Oley and Elsie Marie Walker Smith. "Sylvia was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired nurse from Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Wyoming General Hospital in Mullens and Welch Emergency Hospital. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. "In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Wendell Smith, Alvin Smith, David Smith and Mikie Smith; and two sisters, Helen Smith and Edith Smith. "Survivors included a son, David Bailey and his wife Stephanie of Germantown, N.C.; two daughters, Patty Rose and her husband Butch of King, N.C. and Elaine Tracy and her husband Gordon of Roanoke, Va.; four brothers, Bob Smith of East Bend, Arville Smith of Glen Fork, K.V. Smith of Mullens and Darrell Smith of Keyrock; a sister, Gloria Spence of Beckley; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. "A celebration of Sylvia’s life will begin at noon today at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945 during World War II.
