long illness. "Born Oct. 31, 1955, at Pineville, he was the son of Lillian Johnson Cook of Keyrock and the late Harry
K. Cook.
"Steven was of the Pentecostal faith and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry
work and being around family and friends.
"In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Dean Cook; and two
nephews, Wayne Cook and Jody Lusk. "In addition to his mother, survivors include four brothers, Dexter Cook and his wife, Joyce, of Pineville,
David Cook and his wife, Dian, of Ramey Addition, Paul Cook of Bellview, Fla., and Jeffrey Cook and
his wife, Doris, of Pineville; two sisters, Mae Mullins and her husband, Howard, of Pineville and
Brenda Cox and her husband, Clyde, of Pineville; several nieces and nephews; extra special friends,

"Dexter Kyle Cook, 62, of Keyrock, went to be with the Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with lymphoma caused by Agent Orange, by Sunday, July 31, 2011. "He was born October 21, 1948 at Key Rock, where he remained a lifelong resident. "He was preceded in death by his father, Harry K. Cook, an infant brother, James Dean Cook, and a brother, Steven V. Cook. "Dexter was of the Pentecostal faith, and proudly served his Lord and Savior. Dexter was a 1967 graduate of Pineville High School and Wyoming County Vocational-Technical School. He was also a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. While in the service, he served as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He received an honorable discharge and came home to start his life and begin his family. Dexter was a hard working coal miner for over 33 years. He was an electrician, chief electrician and maintenance foreman for several companies, until 2007, when he was forced to retire, due to health reasons. "Dexter had a wealth of knowledge about the mining industry and was devoted and dependable, when it came to his job. Dexter loved to work with wood and was a talented and skilled carpenter, having learned his trade from his father, Harry K. Cook. "Dexter enjoyed being outdoors, boating and fishing with his family. There was nothing Papaw Dexter couldn’t fix. He often enjoyed spending time in his wood shop, working with projects for his family, to pass the time. Dexter’s greatest enjoyment in life was his family and he loved family gatherings. Nothing made him happier than when his grandchildren were at his house, his grandchildren completed his life. "Dexter will always be remembered for his kindness and devotion to his family. He strived at setting the perfect example of what a good husband, father, provider and grandfather should be. Nothing can ever fill the void left in our lives that Dexter left but, we can take comfort in knowing that he has gone to help prepare a place for his family, as he did in life. "Dexter is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Joyce Cook; loving and devoted daughter, Della Lane and husband, David, and grandchildren, David Kyle Lane and Dawson Alexander Lane, all of Mullens; a loving and devoted step-son, Shane Privett and wife Sabrina, and grandson, Dylan Michael Privett, of Buffalo Creek; a loving and devoted step-daughter, Angela Hatfield and husband, Timmy and grandchildren Madison Paige Hatfield and Roman Gage Hatfield, of Cyclone; his loving mother Lillian Cook, of Keyrock; two sisters, Mae Mullins and husband Howard of Keyrock and Brenda Cox, of Pineville; three brothers, David Cook and wife Dian of Pineville, Paul Cook of Pineville, and Jeff Cook and wife, Doris, of Keyrock. "Elizabeth "Mae" Cook Mullins 73, of Key Rock went home to be with her Lord on July 11, 2020. She was born on March 16, 1947 in Key Rock, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lillian Johnson Cook. Mae was a longtime member of the Rockview Tabernacle where she was the President of the Ladies Aid Ministry and a minister of the Gospel. She loved sewing and spending time with her family and friends crocheting, but her joy was being with her grandbabies and great grandbabies. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers: Dexter, Steve, and Paul Cook and a younger brother at birth James Dean Cook.

"Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband of 55 years Howard Mullins of Key Rock, a daughter Karen (Mike) Jackson of Indian Creek, 2 son's Kenny (Joanna) Mullins of Garwood, and Michael (Belinda) Mullins, of Welch-Pineville Rd. 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, her sister Brenda Cox of Pineville, 2 brothers David (Diane) Cook, of Pineville and Jeffery (Doris) Cook of Key Rock and a sister in law Joyce Cook of Key Rock, and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends, and church family."
