"...Roland Lee changed the spelling to Goebel when he left KY for WV. He told me that his stepfather
used to beat him and when Roland got older he turned the tables on his stepfather and beat him up,
thought he'd killed his stepfather and fled across Tug River into WV where he married my
grandmother, and eventually became a preacher. I don't know when but at some point Roland
answered his front door one day to find the man he'd thought he'd killed standing on his front porch.
Maybe that was what led him to become a preacher. That and the fact that Grandma probably had
some influence on him..."

"I just visited the Wyoming/McCowell County 50 yrs. website. I saw that my father's name had been removed and "Living" inserted in its place. My father was Ernest Arland Bailey. the son of Wyatt Pemberton Bailey and Myrtle Adkins. Daddy always spelled his name Ernest. It is misspelled on his Social Security card as Earnest but on his last driver's license, which was due to expire on Aug. 1, 1979, it was spelled correctly. Daddy was born on June 15, 1923 and he died in February 1977, His social security # was 233-34-9437.
"This morning I was cleaning out a closet and found an old purse of Mommy's (Glada Goebel) in which she had kept Daddy's wallet. It contained his his SS card, driver's license, a picture of my mother as a teenager, coal miners certificate #127258, photo-sized copy of Navy discharge (name spelled Ernest Arland Bailey) stating day of honorable discharge as May 2 1946 and stating rank as Ships Serviceman 2nd Class, and several locks of hair from dead relatives, one of whom seems to be his mother (Who knew?) and a picture of my brother who was hit by a train and killed when on leave from Thailand in the 70's. I don't remember the exact date but have it here somewhere. He was still a teenager. "
